Hello, this is Katherine, welcome to 00Kidney.

Yes, smoothies!

I’ve already unveiled our fifth healthiest smoothie, the Tropical Healthy Smoothie and our number 4, the Green Apple Detox Smoothie.
And today we are going to see the top three best kidney friendly smoothie
All of them are full of vitamins and healthy plant compounds, so useful to improve kidney function and to bring balance to your body!
In these smoothies there are many ingredients that are specifically beneficial for kidney function without the need for expensive powders or hard to find supplements!
An healthy renal diet is best way to lower creatinine levels naturally and, if you can do it in a tasty way, even better!
So today I’m going to show you the top 3 healthiest smoothie for people with kidney disease
Our number 3 is suitable for a keto diet or a low carb diet, can help lowering blood sugar levels and alkalizing the body!
Let’s see it
This is the Aloe Health Bliss! It’s an aloe vera smoothie that can help you cleansing your kidneys!
This is super healthy because Aloe vera, sometimes called the “wonder plant”, can help you boosting your immunity, can lower blood sugar levels, can help with digestion and liver function!
Now, aloe vera is used to heal sunburns, replenish split ends and moisturize skin. You can find it in a lot of personal products like moisturizers, soap, and suntan lotion, herbal remedies, food supplements, cosmetics just for these reasons.
But do you know how healthy aloe vera is when you eat it?
Wait, what? You can eat aloe vera? Really? Absolutely! And it will be great in our smoothie!
This aloe vera based recipe is an easy to make and healthy smoothie that is great to include in your diet.
It packs in all the benefits of the superfood aloe plant in one healthy drink
Now, aloe vera can sometimes have a strong unappealing smell, and some people don’t like it.
This is why I think that the best way to consume aloe vera is in a smoothie. In that way you can really blend it up with any other ingredients you like and absorb all its amazing benefits!
You can buy ready prepared aloe vera gel to make this smoothie, which is the most convenient option, but you can make the gel yourself at home using the leaves.
Cut off the serrated edge. Try to get just the edge because it is difficult to get the gel out of those pieces.
Try to get as much gel as you can.
Once you get the whole piece of skin off, flip the section over and repeat with the other side.
Place all the gel into a plate so you can use it in the recipe.
The second ingredient for this smoothie is one of the healthiest superfood for kidney patients, blueberries.
Blueberries are full of phytonutrients, really useful for your kidney health. Those are even responsible for their blue color.
Blueberries are also packed in antioxidants, a compound that your body can use to defend itself against free radicals. Free radicals are the molecules responsible for our aging, so eating foods rich in antioxidant can help you stay young longer.
Blueberries are rich in manganese, very important for the health of your bones.
They’re also very rich in vitamin C, vitamin B6, iron, magnesium…
We’ll need about half cup of them, let’s add it to our blender!

Ok, now let’s add a cup of kale to the blender.
Kale Is Among The Most Nutrient-Dense Foods on The Planet, it can help in lowering cholesterol and high blood pressure, lower the risk of heart disease and is one of the best sources of vitamin K.
Eating more kale is a great way to dramatically increase the total nutrient content of your diet.
Kale is very high in nutrients and very low in calories, making it one of the most nutrient-dense foods on the planet.
All these benefits make Kale a must for people with kidney disease.
Let’s add it to the blender.
And the juice from half lemon.
Lemon juice is really rich in ascorbic acid, a source of vitamin C that will help making our smoothie a lot tastier by bringing out the true flavor of the ingredients.

Ok, now let’s prepare 1 cup of coconut water. Coconut water is the healthy water present in green coconuts.
It’s not to be confused with coconut milk, which is made from the water and the flesh inside of a mature coconut. Over 95 percent of coconut water is water.
Despite its recent explosion in popularity, coconut water has been consumed for centuries in tropical regions around the world. In traditional Ayurvedic medicine, coconut water is believed to help digestion and urination.
It’s a source of healthy essential amino acids, really important for kidney patients because a lot of renal diets are really low in protein. And there’s also calcium, magnesium and a lot of antioxidants in coconut water.
But it also contain some potassium, there’s about 400 milligrams per cup. So if you’re on a potassium allowance or if your doctor told you to limit potassium, you can use water instead or just half cup of coconut water instead of a full cup.
Potassium is not always dangerous for people with kidney disease, but if your potassium levels are already high or if you’re trying to limit it, it’s better to avoid ingredients rich in potassium.
This is usually recommended to patients in the last stage of kidney disease.
The last ingredient is chia seeds, just a tablespoon of them
Despite their small size, chia seeds are full of important nutrients. They are an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids, rich in antioxidants, and they provide fiber, iron, and calcium.
Let’s put them in the blender
The Omega-3 fatty acids in chia seeds help raise HDL cholesterol, the “good” cholesterol that protects against heart attack and stroke.
Now, don’t’ just add all the water at once.
The best way to make this smoothie is to start with half the coconut water and a couple of ice cubes and start to mix everything together.
When it starts to blend, let’s say after a minute, add the rest of the water since you reach your desired consistency.
I’ve called this smoothie the Aloe Health Bliss, it’s made with Half cup aloe vera, half cup blueberries, one tablespoon of chia seeds, 1 cup of kale, juice from half lemon, and half cup coconut water.
Let’s taste test it! Mmm it’s a bit on the bitter side but for a cleansing smoothie it’s not bad!
Let me know if you’ve tried this recipe and share it with your friends if you liked it!

Let’s see our next smoothie!
This one is maybe my favorite, a really yummy recipe that is as healthy as flavorful!

This is the Jump Start Choco smoothie, a kidney friendly healthy breakfast that will give you all the energy you need in a tasty way!
I’m happy to say that even if it’s so tasty, this smoothie is a lot kidney friendlier than most of the whole food recipes I stumbled upon online.
In fact, it’s packed with fiber and can actually help you improving your kidney health. And it tastes very, very yummy.
Let’s see how to make it!
First of all we’re going to need a medium sized pear. This is a Bartlett Pear or Williams pear.
The majority of a pear’s nutrients are in or just below the skin.
Pears are an excellent source of fiber, offering 24% of the Dietary Recommended Intake in one medium-sized pear, but remember the majority is packed into the skin. Not only is a pear’s fiber great for regularity, but it is also associated with lower cholesterol levels and a reduced risk of heart disease, as well as lowering your risk for colon and post-menopausal breast cancer.
For this reason, it is a good idea to eat the skin and choose organic pears.
Pear skin is also a good source of Vitamin C (10% of the Dietary Recommended Intake) and copper both of which we must get from our diet.
Yes, all these nutrients from just a single fruit.
All pears should be washed before eating.
Then we slice it remove the core, and put it in our blender.
Oh, were is my blender? I forgot to wash it!
Ok, ready, let’s do this!

Our next ingredient is cacao powder! Unsweetened cocoa powder is great for lowering creatinine levels in kidney patients! Wait, what? Chocolate can help kidney disease patients? How?
Dark chocolate has been thoroughly studied recently and it’s proven to lower blood pressure in all the participants of the studies.
It can also reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and can improve cholesterol levels.
How does it work? Cocoa powder and dark chocolate are rich in flavonoids, and these compounds have the property of dilating blood vessels.
There’s only a problem with chocolate. Chocolate bars and industrially made beverages are so full of added sugar that it can counteract almost all the benefits of the flavonoids.
Luckily, there’s a way to get the benefits without the added sugar.
Use unsweetened, non-alkalized cocoa powder, like this that I have here with me.
Adding the cocoa powder to our smoothie will not just make it healthy and lower your blood pressure, it will also make it delightful.
Third ingredients is Almonds
this superfood can dramatically lower your blood pressure.
Almonds have several metabolic benefits, and like other tree nuts, can really help lowering blood pressure.
They are really rich in magnesium: one cup of almonds can provide about 60% or more of the Dietary Recommended Intake for this essential mineral.
This is important because lack of magnesium is strongly linked with high blood pressure and many other bodily processes. Yes, lack of magnesium can really wreak havoc with our metabolism.
And there are several studies showing that correcting magnesium deficiency can significantly lower blood pressure.
Now, here is the interesting part: about 68% of US adults are below the recommended daily dose of magnesium. So, adding almonds to our diet can really make a big difference.
Let’s add 1/8 of cup of almond to our blender.

Optional ingredient:
you can add a serving of whey protein to this smoothie.
I know, I know that a lot of kidney disease patients cannot have too many proteins in their diet, but everyone still need some.
You just cannot live without protein, they’re a macronutrient that cannot be replaced.
And whey protein, a common protein powder supplement, is an healthy choice to achieve a good nutritional status.
For kidney patients is usually recommended to limit protein intake to 10 to 15 percent of their total calories intake, so be sure to count the protein in this smoothie in that allowance.
Now, if you want to try adding some whey protein to your diet, or in a smoothie like the one I’m making today, find an unsweetened supplement, since the artificial sweeteners they put in supplements are dangerous for the kidneys.
So, we’ve put everything in the blender, now let’s just add about one cup of water and a couple of ice cubes.
1 williams pear with the skin, cored,
2 tbsp cacao powder,
1/8 cup of almonds,
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1 serving chocolate protein powder
1/2 to 3/4 cup water
3 to 4 ice cubes

Time for our number one, the healthiest smoothie!
This is so good for your health you wouldn’t believe, and it actually tastes amazing!
Let’s see what’s inside!!!

Yes, this is really great, it’s the kale ginger detox smoothie!
like the name says it’s made from
Kale, one cup of it
Ginger, two chunks of about 1 inch
One cup of red grapes
And chia seeds, one tablespoon.
Let’s mix everything together with a couple of ice cubes and one cup of Coconut milk…
Mmm great!
This is all for today, thank you for watching.
