If there’s one thing that really helps when it comes to
improving kidney health, is the diet.

Your diet alone can make all the difference in the world
– and science confirms that.

So, if you’re doing all you can to improve your kidney

And if there’s one thing that really helps when it comes to improving kidney health, is the diet.
Your diet alone can make all the difference in the world – and science confirms that.

So, if you’re doing all you can to improve your kidney health, and nothing works, the reason may be one of the foods of today’s video.

Yes, there’s one problem many patients have to face.
The 5 kidney killer foods sold as healthy.
These are foods with so much added sugar, added salt and trans fats that if you eat them, all your efforts to improve kidney health are going to be compromised.
And – you will not believe this – but big corporations are actually marketing these foods as healthy.

Thanks to them, the opinion of the general public on the “healthy” way of eating is so biased, that sometimes we end up eating the worst, the unhealthiest foods right when we think we are eating healthy.

So today we are going to see the 5 most dangerous kidney killer foods big corporations are actually marketing as healthy.
Our number 5 is a drink you will never believe is actually unhealthy.
And yet, people drinking it are constantly facing health problems.
This is actually linked to weight gain, stroke, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease.
And, yet, this is how ads portray it.

Yes, this is our number 5 kidney killer food.
Despite what commercials say, diet sodas and diet drinks in general are very unhealthy for your kidneys and your heart – especially if you drink them regularly.
Even though diet soda contains no sugar and just 1 small calorie, studies show that those who drink diet soda more often are more likely to develop certain health issues.
Especially kidney problems.
A large study linked drinking 2 or more diet sodas can per day to developing kidney disease.

How is this possible, if these beverages contain no sugar?
Well, many scientists believe that the problem is how the brain responds to the sweet taste these drinks have.
Sweeteners in large amounts, like you find in diet sodas, will basically make you crave more sweetness.
This is why people who drink diet sodas regularly usually end up eating more sugar – even if it doesn’t come from these drinks.

Now guys, there’s a catch with diet sodas. There may be a way to still enjoy them WITHOUT DAMAGING YOUR KIDNEYS.
A simple trick.

The key here is… moderation.
+
Incredible, who could have imagined?
So, one diet soda once a week is ok, but drinking one in the morning and one in the evening is not.

Time now for an entry that it’s never healthy – not even in moderation – despite what commercials tell you.
Let’s see it.


Yeah, our number 4 is granola and granola bars.
And that commercial is older than me, but believe me when I say that they have become even more aggressive today.
And this is a problem.
Because … granola is not healthy for you.
Yes, despite its reputation as a breakfast health food, granola is nothing less than another junk food.
Let’s see what happens to your body when you eat this one regularly.

Granola is a toasted mixture of rolled oats, nuts, and … sugar.
Actually, a lot of sugar. Some granolas have up to 5 teaspoons (20 grams) of sugar in a single serving.
Eating it even once in a while will immediately spike your blood glucose.
Very bad for you, and not only for diabetics.
All this sugar will also make you crave more sugar.
Eating all this sugar increases your risk of many conditions, such as type 2 diabetes, obesity, heart disease, cavities, and even some types of cancer.
It clearly damages the kidneys and may frustrate all your efforts to improve.

Don’t believe what the commercials say, avoid granola.
And guys, there’s only one thing in the world that’s advertised even more often and that’s even worse than granola.
Number 3 is

Oh yes, avoid exercising, eat diet yogurt.
These commercials kill more people than cancer.

How is this even legal?

Yes, our number 3 is “diet” foods.
Guys, this is a serious danger.
Years and years of aggressive marketing campaign by food brands, like the one we have just seen, ended up instilling in the consumer a fake sense of what’s actually healthy.
This is why, very often, we end up eating the unhealthiest things when we think we are eating healthy.
Example: this is diet yogurt.
If we check the label, we can see that there’s actually no fat in it.
That’s how they reduce calories.

What they don’t tell you is that, in milk and yogurts, the naturally present fat is probably the healthiest part.
And they removed it just to add…

Oh, here it is: sugar.
Don’t get fooled guys, always check the labels.
And this also applies to many other diet food items.
+
Now the question is: with all these “healthy” foods actually being junk foods, is there something that’s still safe to eat?
Absolutely! In my video up here, you will find a list of all those foods you cannot miss in a renal diet!

Time now to be leaving the diet island of the grocery store and head for the produce section.
Maybe there, we will be able to avoid kidney killer foods?

Or maybe not.
Our number 2 is…


2 high potassium foods

Potassium is a micronutrient way too familiar to kidney patients.
If you’re in an advanced stage of chronic kidney disease, there are really high chances that you’re on a low potassium diet, and you want to keep it that way.
While fruits like banana, mango, avocado and veggies like spinach and potato are well known to be too high in potassium for some patients, there are some hidden dangers you should be aware of.
This is what I call hidden potassium foods.
Very dangerous because you may end up overloading on this mineral without knowing it.
They include:

Sport drink and energy drinks.
These are often meant to replace potassium people lose during exercise.
Many sport drinks contain potassium in large amounts. And some even sugar.
They are not healthy, avoid them.
And also, lite salt.
It may seem a good idea to avoid table salt by replacing it with “nosalt” or other no sodium table salts.
Don’t do it, if your potassium levels are high.
What they use to replace sodium in these is potassium.

Also be very careful with herbal remedies, dietary supplements and packaged foods in general.
Always double check the label both for potassium and phosphorus.

And by the way guys, you may be interested to know that many nephrologists are starting to question the link between potassium in food and potassium in blood.
Researchers have spent years looking at food diaries of patients and they found out that those eating more fruit and vegetable rich in potassium are actually less at risk for high blood potassium levels.

So, question: can you eat bananas if you have kidney problems?

But don’t go away without seeing our number 1 for today!
This is probably the worst enemy of your kidneys and it has only one bright side.
When you avoid it completely, your kidneys are going to get better!
I’m not exaggerating here. For many patients, avoiding just the foods of our number 1 for today is enough to see kidney function improve and creatinine levels go down!
Number 1 kidney killer food is …


1) Meat and protein!
While eating foods rich in protein is not that bad for the general population, they can damage your kidneys if you have CKD.
And this is proven by a large review of studies.
Patients in the advanced stages of CKD following a special diet with zero meat and almost zero protein in general, were actually able to prolong the life of their kidneys by 10 years or more.
Many patients were able to completely stop the progression of kidney disease even in stage 4.
And all they needed to do was to completely avoid meat and protein rich foods!
And while this is extremely good news for someone wanting to live a long, healthy life despite having kidney disease, this diet is not the easiest to implement.
